Computer software for the analysis and design of lightning shielding protection systems in both simple 2D and complex 3D environments, including transmission lines, substations, power plants, industrial plants and other such installations, accounting for the presence of overhead conductors, aboveground equipment, and buildings. The software can consider arbitrary metallic structures to act as shielding systems, including not only shield wires and masts, but also other structures that attract lightning. For transmission lines, both shielding failure and backflashover are considered. Failure rate and risk assessment calculations are included. Shielding calculations for 3D environments are carried out and displayed in real time as shielding components are modified in the graphical interface, making this a highly efficient design tool.
