An image and/or camera based system, namely, a necessary camera and computer hardware to be installed on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), for: 1) particle size measurement of fragmented material at mine bench faces, stockpiles, quarries, and other locations, 2) volume and shape measurement of bench faces, stockpiles, and open pit or underground mine structure, 3) visual and automatic inspection of bench faces and their stability as well as underground mine safety inspection; Computer software to be installed on the UAV hardware, namely, an operating system and application software for capturing images of the desired scenes, and for communicating over networks and/or wireless connections in the field of mining, quarrying, and construction.
