Urology Resource Centre is a non-profit centre that offers information, help and support to people suffering with urological problems, particularly in the areas of diseases of the prostate, prostate cancer, urinary incontinence, and male sexual dysfunction. The centre has an extensive collection of books, videos, pamphlets, brochures, journal articles, magazines and newspaper articles which can be used in the centre or taken home free of charge. There is a TV in the centre and a computer available for patient use, complete with internet access and other health reference programs. Products which help in the management of urinary incontinence and impotence are on display, along with information as to price and where these products can be obtained. Some product is available for purchase through the centre. It is our objective to provide people with access to accurate, up-to-date information that will help them better understand, discuss, treat, and emotionally deal with these sensitive problems. A VON nurse specialist works as a teacher and counselor in the centre two days a week by appointment. There is a nominal charge for this service. The centre works in close contact with family physicians and other allied health care providers within the community but a medical referral is not necessary to visit the centre or to book an appointment with the nurse specialist. We are also very active within the community. We participate in health and wellness events and often speak at conferences, public health forums, and to support groups, service groups, industry, and recreational organizations within the community.
