In Canada, the PCIP is offered through the Critical Infrastructure Institute - Canada (CII Canada)TM. Critical infrastructure can be defined as those assets, facilities, industries, and capabilities that are needed to support commerce and daily life. This definition includes energy, utilities, oil and gas, financial, health care, communications, food and water supply and distribution, transportation, safety/emergency response, government and manufacturing as well as SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and other high availability environments. Critical infrastructure protection can be defined as activities, programs, systems and tools that identify the critical infrastructure and its components (human, physical and cyber); assess vulnerabilities; develop protective, mitigation and contingency strategies to reduce vulnerabilities and respond to negative impacts. The PCIP is recognized by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and is tailored specifically to the requirements of organizations and professionals involved in critical infrastructure environments. These skills range from security architecture design and management to highly advanced technical skills such as those used by hackers to circumvent security measures as well as countermeasure techniques all specific to critical infrastructure. | |
