Creating Harmony in Care was developed to bridge Indigenous Knowledge and Western Practices in health care initiatives in Alberta Health Services. This was created with equal attention to Indigenous and Western ways of thinking and doing. The feather represents how closely Elders have guided the work, and each of the icons illustrate that considerations are needed to support the person, within the context of the system, while ensuring appropriate care and community wisdom: Using evidence-based care that is both traditional and western. Capturing wisdom, knowledge, and solutions that already exist in Indigenous communities. Considering system factors, such as determinants of health. Ensuring that each person's unique needs and preferences in care are addressed and considered, to health that person live a healthy life with, or at risk, of chronic disease.
