PULSE (Participatory Urban Living for Sustainable Environments) is an integrated system of computer applications, including mobile applications, mobile games, mobile dashboards and platforms, designed to collect novel urban data using a variety of technologies (personal devices, including mobile phones and wearable activity trackers, and augmented objects in public places, including beacons, street furniture, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites, and objects in private spaces, including augmented objects in the home). PULSE involves the collection of geocoded open data, clinical data, government data, and volunteered personal data and delivers individual recommendations regarding risk mitigation in urban environments, and advice to a range of stakeholders, including government, healthcare providers, businesses and communities, regarding risk avoidance and resilience strengthening in urban environments. The risks covered by PULSE include environmental hazards associated with changing climate conditions, air and water quality, urban noise levels, and hazards associated with human behaviors, including those associated with specific lifestyle patterns (for example, sedentary behaviour, poor diet).
