Services (NICE class & Statement) Providing a frontline therapist role within the sport medicine model of healthcare at point of injury in field of play, as well as in clinical care settings, and as a sport medical team member or head sport therapist for professional, amateur and (secondary and post-secondary) educational institutions' sports events, including training and practices, and post-injury rehabilitation, including the reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries using latest best practices and techniques. Expertise provided includes safe sport training, emergency response and first responder/first-aid for injuries, concussion management and treatment, basic emergency life support, injury prevention, equipment inspection, field-of-play inspection, assessment of environmental factors, the development and oversight of warm-up and conditioning programs, nutrition advice, exercise regimes, health and wellness knowledge-based programs, best-in-class evidence-based practices and the application of prophlactic treatments and protocols including supportive taping, principally for players (although sometimes required to respond to incidents involving coaching staff and spectators). Providing therapeutic care to non-professional or non-organized sport team athletes engaged in the athletic pursuit of daily living such as industrial athletes, any profession that involves physical activity or supporting the engagement of others in active lifestyle choices by applying sport medicine techniques improving physical outcomes whether pre-and-post surgery or in preparation to engage safely and fully in physical activities and physically demanding pastimes. Certification mark text The use of the certification mark is intended to indicate that the services in association with which it is used are of the following defined standard: In order to be granted the certification, the practitioner must have successfully challenged the Certification Examination and must be a registrant in good standing of AT-REG or of another organization recognized by AT-REG. In order to challenge the Certification Examination the applicant must have completed a post-secondary degree program recognized by AT-REG, or have completed a program deemed to be equivalent by AT-REG, must have completed a minimum of 1200 hrs. working under the supervision of a Certified Sport Therapist, including a minimum of 600 hours of on-field practice and a minimum of 600 hours of clinical practice. In order to maintain the certification, the practitioner must be a registrant in good standing of AT-Reg, or of another organization recognized by AT-REG, and comply with the requirements for continuing education and professional development, ethical and professional conduct and the standards of practice of said organization or organizations. AT-REG or other organizations recognized by AT-REG may also grant the certification to those of its registrants, or applicants for registration, who are deemed by AT-REG to have the competencies equivalent to those who have successfully challenged the Certification Examination. The purpose of the AT-REG certification is to establish that individuals have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform tasks critical for the safe and competent practice as an entry-level Sport Therapist through the exam and continuing competence requirements established by the third-party reviewed and validated Sport Therapist Practice Analysis that identifies essential knowledge and skills for the Sport Therapy profession and serves as a blueprint for the Sport Therapist certification exam development and continuing competence programming.
